petitioning facebook for a name change for your business page

Facebook is open to requests for name changes to your business pages if you can provide documentation about your actual business name.  Here are step by step instructions on how to access that request form.

    1. Log into Facebook and go to the page you’d like to rename.
    2. Open the Admin panel by clicking it in the upper right hand corner of your page.
    3. Next click the drop down menu that says “Manage” and select “edit page.
    4. Next select and click on “basic information”
    5. on the left hand side of your screen.
    6. You’ll see “category” and “user name” and under those you should see “Name.”  This should be the current name of your page.
    7. Next to the name of your page will be a live, blue, underlined link that says “request change.”
    8. Click there and follow Facebook’s simple directions to request a name change.  Within a few days Facebook will review your request and ask you for any further documentation they need in order to help you.

That’s it.  My experience is that Facebook is very responsive to this form.  If you’d like to read more about the changes to Facebook’s fan pages with the rollout of the new Timeline design, check out my Procrastinator’s Guide to fan page changes.

I have followed your directions meticulously, and it seems Facebook has changed its policy. Our page has more than 200 likes and is based in the US. I can see how to change the URL, but not the Facebook page name. Can you help?

      2. Harris, Is the name you are trying to set as your Facebook name the legal name of your company, or are you just dissatisfied with the name you’ve chosen? You can change the name of your page yourself if you have under 100 fans and after that you need a very good reason to change the name (such as a legal name change for your company). With just 200 likes it might be simpler for you to post a message to that fan base saying you’ve begun a new page with your current business name and invite them to join you there. You can leave that message at the top of the page saying “I now post about _______ exclusively from my new page (URL Here) and would love you to join me there.
